We're done with ZipGenius 6.2 and we are going to compile the setup files and to upload them. Here is list a detailed list of what is changed.- Many "access violation" errors have been fixed.
- Windows 7 compatibility increased (but still not 100% complete - we are working on it).
- New default toolbar skin when ZipGenius runs under Windows 7.
- New default sidebar/home skin when running under Windows 7.
- New default theme under Windows 7.
- Sightly redone the zgres.dll that contains the icons for the file types associated to ZipGenius (we removed the non-32bit formats... Panta rei and Windows 95/98/ME are officially dead).
- New "search for update" feature: 5 minutes after launching ZipGenius, it will go on the Internet to search for a newer build. If available, a desktop alert will inform you. You can still manually search for updates, too.
- New language packs management panel: only compatible language packs are shown, so you can't download an older language for your newer ZipGenius. Maybe you want to contribute with a translation? Go to http://www.zipgenius.com and check it out...
- Better check for missing settings in the Windows registry: if a setting is not available under HKEY_CURRENT_USER, then ZipGenius will lookup in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE the default setting.
- Better check for registry settings when running in "portable mode" (e.g. from a USB pendrive).
- Better routine to load the toolbar skin.
- Better file types association procedure (ready for Windows Vista and 7).
- Better Windows 7 operating system detection.
- ZipGenius now doesn't need to run in compatibility mode under Windows 7 at all.
- Setup program installs new links to WinInizio website and forum, PayPal donation page and Online Help.
- Setup now correctly set the "IsExpert" registry value to make ZipGenius running in expert mode from the beginning.
- Minor bugfixes under the hood.
ZipGenius 6.2 will be available on Saturday,
21st November 2009, starting from 12 AM (GMT+1 time).

Note:"ZipGenius shell extensions aren't working in 64 bit versions of Windows, due to technical reasons.
We are searching for a volunteer software developer that will translate our 32bit Delphi code into 64bit C++."

We're Building Zipgenius 6.3 (and More)
While ZipGenius 6.2.0.2008 has been just released, we are not sitting back to wait and we are working on ZipGenius 6.3.
What will ZG 6.3 offer?
It will be one step forward to perfect compatibility with Windows 7, even if won't have shell extensions in 64bit versions of Windows. Good news coming from Embarcadero, the company that now produces Delphi 2010: somewhere in 2010 we will see a native 64bit Delphi compiler. This means that we will finally produce the 64bit shell extensions missing to ZipGenius.
Moreover, ZG63 will offer the bugfix to "Picture preview" mode and no flipped pictures. A new clickable status bar will appear, too.
... and what about ZG 7?
I know you heard many times about this version. Trust me, it is not vaporware. ZG6 is still widely used and performing well, so much that no one is urging for a new major release. That appears clearly if you think that ZG6 is holding on from 2004!!! It crossed Windows XP, Windows Vista and now it's on Windows 7, passing through some Linux distribution running WINE.
This has been made possible because we used good free and open source components, which were always update from one Delphi edition to the other, and when those components were not upgraded anymore, we easily found better replacements.
It is happening right now with ZG6 compiled on Delphi 2010: some free component didn't install in D2010 and no new version was available (that happened to the old status bar, as example), so we went out and searched for a replacement. However, it is really noticeable how well-written code doesn't need to be updated each year: the 80% of components used by ZipGenius quickly passed from D2006 to D2010 (hopping three Delphi editions!) without any problem and they got installed as expected. The best piece of code, IMHO, is the TExBar used for the sidebar and the home panel in ZG: not a bit has changed from its first usage!
This fact tells why ZipGenius 7 is currently defined as "experimental project in Alpha Stage": we are still developing it but without hurry, because nobody need a radical ZipGenius revolution. We are using ZG7 to experiment components and new bits of user interface (believe me: ZG7 has a great UI (IMG:http://forum.wininizio.it/style_emoticons/default/;).gif) ). Some of this experiments are making their way to ZG6 and they will appear from time to time in the next releases; this method will put ZG6 closer to ZG7 day after day and, at some time, ZG7 will succeed to ZG6 in a very natural way and in a shorter time.

ZipGenius 6.2.0.2010 Is Online! Dec 4, 2009What's new?- ZG command line module has been fixed
- ZipForge zip engine v5.03
Downloads;http://www.zipgenius.com/index.php?id=33Note:We just discovered that someone is spreading ZipGenius 6.2.0.2010 without authorization and uploading to many file sharing sites.
File sharing for ZipGenius is always welcome but not when someone is repacking ZipGenius in order to distribute text documents that lead to download pirated/hacked/cracked softwares.
The WinInizio Software Division and The ZipGenius Team disapprove this behaviour and ask you to report these abuses to download sources.
You can recognize easily the unauthorized ZipGenius downloads because the software has been (in a silly way) repacked as a RAR archive!!
Also, don't forget to verify the MD5 checksum of the ZipGenius setup once you get it.
