This update adds more cleaning for Edge and a screen where you can review your subscription status. Additionally, the Avast offer in the CCleaner installer is no longer shown if you have previously declined it.

CCleaner v5.41

The Piriform team would like to announce the latest release of CCleaner for Windows. In this release, we’re pleased to introduce a new Cleaning Summary screen.

 

As part of a long-term commitment to usability, we looked at the way we show cleaning results and decided that a single, fixed results screen wasn’t useful to all our users. This new screen delivers cleaning results in a more meaningful way to our less technical users, so that they can understand the value of regularly cleaning their PC. Its product tips section will help all our users discover some of the other useful features CCleaner has to offer.

 

We hope you like it but if you prefer to keep the old style, simply enable the 'Show Cleaner results as a file list' preference in the Advanced Options menu. If this setting is already enabled, the new Cleaning Summary screen will not be displayed.

" We're pleased to announce the latest release of CCleaner for Windows.

In this release, we’ve made stability improvements and added better reporting to allow us to deliver faster bug fixes and software improvements.

 

Privacy Settings

• The Monitoring feature and reporting of anonymous usage data can now be controlled separately (previously both were controlled by the ‘Active Monitoring’ checkbox)
• Added a separate control for the reporting of anonymous usage data
• Added a link to a Data Factsheet, which explains the data reported from CCleaner, why it’s reported, and what it’s used for (in summary, CCleaner only reports anonymous, statistical data for the purposes of maintaining and improving the app, and it does not report any personal information)

Smart Cleaning

• Renamed the ‘Monitoring’ feature to ‘Smart Cleaning’, to better describe its purpose (intelligent cleaning alerts) and underline the fact that it does not report usage data
• Reworded the ‘System Monitoring’ checkbox to ‘Tell me when there are junk files to clean’
• Reworded the ‘Browser Monitoring’ checkbox to ‘Enable automatic browser cleaning’
• Reworded the ‘Active Monitoring’ checkbox to ‘Enable Smart Cleaning’
• If Smart Cleaning is disabled, CCleaner’s background process will close and the feature will not run on startup (same behavior as in v5.44)

General

• Added ‘Minimize to System Tray’ option and restored previous minimize behavior
• Added ‘Exit’ option to the Tray Icon menu (closes the background process)
• Fixed various stability issues

In this release, we’ve improved cleaning for Edge, and added support for 'feature previews'.

 

Browser Cleaning

• Added workaround for cleaning Edge while in the ‘suspended’ state on Windows 10, build 1809. This workaround is temporary while we consider a more permanent solution.
• Fixed cleaning of Edge cookies in Windows 10
• Fixed a bug where cleaning Firefox Internet History would corrupt the profile

Feature Previews

CCleaner now supports the release of new features still in development to a limited audience for testing. ‘Feature Previews’ help us to uncover more difficult-to-find technical issues across a wide variety of system configurations prior to the official release of a new feature. For example, if a new feature is misbehaving, we can disable it completely while we fix it.

In the future we will add support for opting out of feature previews, so if you’re not interested in potentially being selected for this, you can remain on version 5.47 for the time being.

General

• Renewed our digital security certificate as the previous one was due to expire.

Software Updates

• Added new menu: ‘Options’ > ‘Updates’
• Moved ‘Inform me of updates to CCleaner’ setting to the ‘Updates’ menu
• Replaced ‘Enable silent background updates’ setting with separate settings for automatic product updates and product update notifications
• Added new settings to control important updates and their notifications
• Automatic product updates are now enabled for anyone upgrading to CCleaner Professional (these can be disabled in the ‘Updates’ menu)
