Hi
I know lot of our members are knowing the following short cuts but I decided to post a compact overview of known short cuts here.

Sure there are lot of such short cuts and I'l try to post all I can find. This will take time 'cause I've to prepare each posting in a special way. So give me some time please, it's a horrible work ;)

Important note: You're using all posted short cuts at your own risk!!!


Definitions of the key tabs in this document:

[WIN] = That key tab looks like the MS Windows logo

[Key tab] = Defined key tab which must be pressed and hold down

[Key tab] + [Key tab] = Two or more key tabs being pressed simultaniously

[STRG], [CTR] or [CTR] = Control key

[Fn] = Function key tabs with n = 1 to 12

[Spce] or [SPACE]

[Shft] or [SHIFT]

[Bck Space] or [Backspace]

[DEL] or [DELETE]

[BRK] or [Break]

[PRN] or [PRINT]



Win key tab combinations in Windows

[WIN] = Fading in and out the start menu.

[WIN] + [PAUSE] or
[WIN] + [Break] = System properties will pop up

[WIN] + [D] = Switches between the esktopn and the currently opened application window

[WIN] + [E] = Starts the Windows Explorer

[WIN] + [F] = Starts the windows search menu (looking for files and directories)

[WIN] + [L] = Block for the currently user. Note: An administrator can access that computer with his
administrator password!

[WIN] + [M] = Minimize all opened windows

[WIN] + [SHFT] + [M] = Maximize all minimized windows (opposite to [WIN] + [M])

[WIN] + [R] = Opens the run dialog menu. All entries must be closed with [ENTER]

Interesting commands:
cmd (Win NT, W2K or WinXP) = A "DOS box" opens (Command line mode)
command (Win9x, Win Me) = Same like before (Command line mode)
ipconfig/all (Win NT, W2K, WinXP)= Details of your network connection like IP address, MAC-address etc
Winipcfg (Win9x, Win ME) = Same like before
mailto: = Starts your default email program for writing an email

[WIN] + [STRG]+ [F] = Search function for computers, printer etc. in an entiered network

[WIN] + [U] = Enables a special menu for people with lack eyesight

[ALT] + [Shft] + [Print] = Setting up the contrast for people with lack eyesight

[Shft}+ [Delete] = Deletes a file or directory directely without using the recycle bin (wastepaper basket)!
Be careful when using this short cut!

[ALT]+ [underlined capital] = Executes the choosen command
f.e. [ALT] + [F] opens the file menu in applications


[F1] = Opens the help menu

[F2] = Option for renaming files or directories

[F3] = Starts the search menu (see also: [WIN] + [F])

[F4] = Shows all entries in your Windows Explorer AND (!!!!) IE address line which have been used

[F5] = Refreshes the view of the opened application

[F10] = Actives the menu bar in applications

Marked element + [ALT] + [ENTER]= Opens the properties of that choosen element (f.e. file or directory)

[CTRL] + [A] = Marks all elements (f.e: files or directories)

[ALT] + [F4] = Closes acitve element or program

[ALT] + [Spce] = Opens the context menu of an active application

[STRG] + [F4] = Closes an application with all opened documents of that application

[ALT] + [TAB] = Switches between the opened windows

[ALT} + [ESC] = switching between the opened applications. Ordered by the last opening

[Shft] or
[ESC] = Prevents the autorun function of a CD ROM when put into the CD ROM drive
