Samsung Galaxy S III to debut by April?
by Lance Whitney | March 5, 2012 7:25 AM PST

Summary: The next Galaxy-class smartphone could debut next month, says ZDNet Asia. But Samsung is denying the report.

Will Samsung unveil its next major smartphone next month? One report says yes. The company says no.

The Galaxy S III will reportedly make its grand entrance in April as part of an ad campaign related to the 2012 Olympics in London, according to sources cited by ZDNet Korea (English translation).

ZDNet apparently received its intel from Cheil Worldwide, an ad agency owned by Samsung. The Korean handset maker will be a major sponsor of this year's summer games. So Samsung may be aiming to launch the new phone in time for the opening ceremony in July, speculates CNET UK.

Cheil did not immediately respond to CNET's request for comment. A Samsung spokesman told CNET that he couldn't comment on rumors or speculation about the product.

But Samsung has denied reports of an April launch date, tweeting that they're not true. The company did release the following statement to The Verge:

"The successor to the Galaxy S II smartphone will be unveiled in the first half of the year, closer to commercial availability of the product. We cannot confirm the detailed information at the moment."

Samsung has been teasing the S III's upcoming debut, promising to announce the actual launch date on Twitter once it's ready.
